On August 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in India’s electric vehicle (EV) journey. The e-Vitara is the company’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV), designed for export to over 100 countries, including advanced markets such as Europe and Japan.
This launch underscores India’s growing capabilities in EV manufacturing and aligns with the nation’s goals of sustainability and self-reliance. The e-Vitara’s production is a testament to the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative, showcasing the country’s potential as a global hub for green mobility.
During the event, PM Modi also inaugurated the next phase of a facility focused on producing hybrid battery electrodes, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to green technology and local manufacturing in the renewable energy sector.
The e-Vitara’s debut is expected to boost investor confidence, with Maruti Suzuki’s shares surging nearly 3% to reach a new 52-week high of ₹14,825 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
With advanced features, global export plans, and a focus on locally manufactured components, the e-Vitara sets a new benchmark in India’s EV landscape and marks Maruti Suzuki’s first step into the electric SUV segment.
