BYD is set to deepen its presence in India with plans to establish its first full-scale manufacturing facility in the country. Reports suggest the Chinese EV giant is eyeing Hyderabad for this massive project, with a proposed investment of ₹85,000 crore ($10 billion).
Currently, BYD operates a small assembly base in Tamil Nadu, focusing on electric buses. The new facility, spanning over 500 acres, is expected to produce up to 600,000 EVs annually by 2032. Additionally, the company is working on a battery production unit with a 20 GWh capacity, further strengthening its foothold in the Indian market.
This move could significantly reduce BYD’s vehicle prices, making its EVs more accessible to Indian consumers. With Telangana positioning itself as an EV hub through supportive policies, the new plant is expected to boost local manufacturing and accelerate the country’s shift to sustainable mobility.
