Forty workers at Agropur Cooperative in Sussex, New Brunswick, have voted to join Unifor.
“Congratulations to the Agropur workers for choosing Unifor to stand in their corner,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne. “We are excited to help improve working conditions and bargain your first contract.”
Represented by Unifor Local 506, the workers, including some in Skilled Trades, produce butter, skim milk powder, and custom milk powder blends. The unionizing effort began in June 2024 after workers sought better treatment and were motivated by policy and benefits changes introduced by the employer. Reducing workplace favoritism was another key driver for their decision.
“There’s strength in unity,” said Unifor Organizing Director Justin Gniposky. “These New Brunswick members join fellow Agropur workers from Bedford and Truro, N.S., and they know that with Unifor, they can fight and win.”
