German semiconductor giant Infineon is strengthening its presence in India by expanding its operations in chip design and software development. The company is leveraging its two Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to drive innovation and enhance its market footprint. With a workforce of over 2,000 employees in Bengaluru, Infineon has now inaugurated its second GCC in Ahmedabad, marking a significant step in its growth strategy.
Infineon plans to double its workforce in India to 5,000 by 2030 and aims to generate $1 billion in revenue. While the company primarily focuses on chip design and software, it is open to exploring manufacturing opportunities in India, either independently or through partnerships. CEO Jochen Hanebeck emphasized that while microcontroller manufacturing is outsourced, the company manages power semiconductors and sensor production in-house.
With India emerging as a key hub for semiconductor innovation, Infineon’s expansion aligns with the country’s growing demand for advanced technology solutions. The company’s strategic investment highlights India’s role in the global semiconductor ecosystem and reinforces its commitment to technological advancement. As Infineon scales up its operations, it is set to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s semiconductor landscape.
