Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s former Prime Minister and a renowned economist, passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday due to age-related medical conditions, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, confirmed in a statement.
“With profound grief, we inform the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh. He was being treated for age-related medical conditions and suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26, 2024,” the statement read.
Dr. Singh served as Prime Minister for two consecutive terms (2004–2014) under the Congress-led UPA government, playing a pivotal role in shaping modern India’s economic landscape.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters.
