Located in Gurugram, Haryana, EcoGram is a biogas plant and material recovery facility developed to promote circular economy practices. Supported by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), the facility collects wet and dry waste from 20 bulk generators, including residential welfare associations (RWAs), corporate offices, and commercial complexes.
Inside EcoGram: How Waste Becomes Power
At the facility, wet waste is processed to produce biogas, which is then used to generate electricity, while dry waste is segregated and sent for recycling. Since its inception in 2022, EcoGram has recycled over 1,115,370 kilograms of waste, reduced carbon dioxide emissions by more than 144,000 kilograms, and consistently generated around 200 kilowatts of electricity per day.
By preventing greenhouse gas emissions typically produced by landfills, EcoGram plays a significant role in reducing the region’s carbon footprint. In addition to its waste management operations, EcoGram features “Earth-Shala,” an outdoor theatre equipped with display boards and a seating area designed for educational interactions. So far, around 1,087 visitors—including schoolchildren, corporate groups, government officials, and international representatives—have toured the facility to learn about sustainable waste management practices.
