In a major development, China has lifted restrictions on the export of fertilizers, rare earth materials and tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to India, easing concerns in agriculture and infrastructure sectors.
The decision came following the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi and his discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Officials confirmed that China has already initiated shipments of these critical commodities.
The export curbs had earlier disrupted India’s supply of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizers ahead of the Rabi season, slowed down infrastructure projects dependent on TBMs, and created bottlenecks in the supply of rare earth magnets vital for electronics, automotive and green energy industries.
Sources said the matter was raised strongly during recent diplomatic talks, with India highlighting the impact of the curbs on domestic production and project timelines.
The easing of restrictions comes alongside broader confidence-building measures, including progress in troop disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and commitments to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged the step, calling it a positive signal in India-China relations, while confirming his participation at the upcoming SCO summit in China.
