PepsiCo, the global snack and beverage giant, is making a significant investment in Tamil Nadu by establishing a new manufacturing plant in Mannapparai, near Tiruchirapalli. The company has secured 28 acres in the Sipcot Industrial Park, where it will produce a range of snack items, including its popular potato chips. This move aligns with PepsiCo India’s broader strategy to scale up its snack manufacturing operations across the country.
Interestingly, Mannapparai is already renowned for its traditional ‘murukku,’ a crunchy South Indian delicacy. The Tamil Nadu government is actively working to develop the region into a major food park, creating opportunities for both local and global food manufacturers.
This expansion follows PepsiCo India’s ₹778 crore investment in Assam in 2023, where a new plant is expected to be operational by 2025 or early 2026. Additionally, the company has made significant investments in expanding its greenfield food plant in Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening manufacturing capabilities in India.
Mannapparai is also emerging as an industrial hub beyond food production. JABIL, a leading electronics manufacturer and key supplier to global brands like Apple, Cisco, and HP, has committed ₹2,000 crore to establish a facility in the region, expected to generate over 5,000 jobs.
With these developments, Tamil Nadu is poised to become a key player in both the food and electronics manufacturing sectors, driving economic growth and employment opportunities.
