Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology event, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The event, jointly organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), runs from October 8 to 11 under the theme “Innovate to Transform.”
PM Modi Highlights India’s Technological Progress
In his inaugural address, Prime Minister Modi lauded India’s rapid strides in technology, particularly in quantum communication, 6G, and financial fraud prevention, crediting startups and indigenous innovation for driving this transformation. He emphasized the government’s continued support through initiatives such as the Telecom Technology Development Fund, which has played a crucial role in advancing R&D and promoting self-reliance.
Highlighting India’s success in electronics and telecom manufacturing, the Prime Minister noted a six-fold rise in electronics production and a 28-fold increase in mobile manufacturing since 2014—an achievement he attributed to the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. He underscored the importance of India’s Made-in-India 4G stack, calling it a symbol of the nation’s technological self-reliance and readiness to export indigenous solutions as part of the India 6G Vision 2030.
PM Modi also drew attention to the newly enacted Telecommunications Act, which facilitates faster approvals and network expansion, while strengthening cybersecurity measures and grievance redressal frameworks. He urged greater collaboration between startups, academia, and policymakers to accelerate innovation through platforms like IMC.
Union Minister Scindia Outlines India’s 6G Roadmap
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted India’s transformation from a technology consumer to a global digital leader, setting ambitious 6G goals projected to contribute $1.2 trillion to India’s GDP by 2035. He also mentioned India’s target of securing 10% of global 6G patents and the growing satellite communications market, expected to triple by 2033.
Minister Scindia credited the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for boosting production, exports, and employment, and noted that mobile data costs have fallen by 98%, making India a global model for affordable digital access. He praised India’s thriving startup ecosystem, spotlighting the Startup World Cup 2025 as a celebration of the country’s innovative spirit.
International 6G Symposium 2025
Later, Minister Scindia and Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), inaugurated the International 6G Symposium 2025, a flagship event within IMC 2025. The symposium brought together global thought leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to deliberate on next-generation 6G technologies, standardisation, and R&D collaborations.
The Bharat 6G Alliance signed two MoUs—with NASSCOM and the European Space Agency—to strengthen international cooperation in technology development. The Alliance also released four whitepapers: “Spectrum Roadmap for 6G in India,” “Powering Next-Gen Telecom,” “AI and Network Evolution to 5G,” and “6G Architecture, Security, and Exposure Framework for RF Sensing.”
A joint declaration endorsing principles for 6G was also showcased, scheduled for release on October 10, 2025.
Minister Scindia reiterated India’s commitment to “co-lead the global 6G revolution,” emphasizing indigenous R&D, international collaboration, and inclusive technology development. “India is no longer a mere consumer of technology—we strive to be the architects of the future,” he said.
IMC 2025 Exhibition Highlights
Earlier, Minister Scindia, along with Minister of State for Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and Dr. Mittal, inaugurated the IMC 2025 Exhibitor Hall, featuring over 400 exhibitors from telecom, electronics, and startup sectors. The ministers interacted with innovators showcasing cutting-edge technologies in optical communications, semiconductors, quantum networks, 6G, and fraud risk management.
IMC 2025 continues to serve as a global platform to promote digital transformation, technological collaboration, and innovation, reaffirming India’s leadership in the next phase of global connectivity.
