The Telangana government has announced an ambitious plan to develop Bharat Future City, a sprawling 765 sq km urban-industrial hub on the southern outskirts of Hyderabad. Touted as the country’s first net-zero smart industrial city, the project will be overseen by the Future City Development Authority (FCDA) and implemented by the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC).
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the city will be designed by an international consultancy and will serve as a global model for sustainable urbanisation. “Bharat Future City will be built to balance industry, environment, and community living,” he noted during the announcement.
The city is planned across 56 villages in seven mandals, strategically located between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways. It will house dedicated zones for artificial intelligence, life sciences, electronics manufacturing, electric vehicles, energy storage, healthcare, entertainment, film production, and tourism.
Built to accommodate over one million residents, the urban design follows the “Live, Learn, Work, Play” model, with walk-to-work residential clusters, leisure hubs, and eco-friendly transport options. Connectivity will be ensured through an internal metro corridor, Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), and linkages to highways and the international airport.
The state has earmarked a significant share of its ₹17,677 crore urban development budget for the project. The government is also seeking funding from global institutions, including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the World Bank, and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
Officials said the project is intended not only to decongest Hyderabad but also to attract international investment and set new benchmarks in sustainable development.
